Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Japan Tobacco International (JTI), in partnership with JTI Leaf Services LLC (Danville, Virginia), is proceeding with plans to build its first tobacco processing plant in the United States with a $19.5 million investment in a new processing plant and headquarters in Danville, Virginia. The company is retrofitting a 256,000-square-foot building to include office space, tobacco receiving, processing and finished-product storage. Built in 1996, the former Dan River distribution center is situated on a 56-acre site and is located at Stinson Drive and River Park Drive at the Riverview Industrial Park.
Building renovations are under way, and installation of processing equipment will take place this spring in anticipation of having the facility fully operational this summer.
Dewberry and Quality Construction, both of Danville, Virginia, were hired to provide architectural services and general contracting services.
