Industrialinfo.com recently analyzed its North American Industrial Database of continuously updated industrial project information and identified the Top 20 industrial companies for 2006. The list shows the Top 20 companies based on number of projects with planned construction starts in 2006. The Top 20 companies are developing a combined 411 projects planned for 2006, with a total investment value exceeding $16.6 billion.
With record-breaking energy consumption and roller coaster electrical and fuel prices, its not surprising that the first eleven companies on the list are energy-related firms in the Power or Petroleum Refining Industries. The top two companies are oil and gas companies. Valero Energy Corporation is number one with 56 projects under development with potential construction starts in 2006. These projects represent over $1 billion in total investment value and involve mainly unit additions and expansions at the companys refineries to meet low sulfur diesel specifications and maximize production. ConocoPhillips is second on the list with 35 projects totaling $1.8 billion. ConocoPhillips is planning oil sands expansions in Alberta, and a number of major turnarounds at petroleum refineries in the U.S.
The first non-energy related firm on the list is Lafarge North America, the construction materials producer, which has a number of cement manufacturing plant and gypsum wallboard plant project work planned for 2006.
Two Pulp & Paper Industry companies made the list. International Paper Company with seventeen projects planned and Weyerhaeuser Company with fourteen projects.
