Trim-Rite Gets Green Light to Move Forward on New Pork Processing Plant in Illinois

Privately held independent custom pork processor Trim-Rite Food Corporation (Carpentersville, Illinois) has received approval to construct a new pork slaughtering and processing plant in Freeport, Illinois. Industrial Info originally reported on the project back in November of 2004 when the plant was sited to be built in Rockford, Illinois. However, plans to build in the city fell through after much protest from angry local residents. In June 2005, the company announced it had secured property in Freeport and also received a $30,000 grant from the Illinois Department of Agriculture to aid in beginning site work.

The facility will be located on a 150-acre site near the Kelly-Springfield Tire Company plant on Springfield Road. Plans call for construction of a 100,000 square-foot processing plant that will slaughter and process 3,000 head of hogs per day into pork products.

Itasca Construction Associated, Incorporated (Itasca, Illinois) has been selected as the design-build contractor for the estimated $14 million project and the firm has about three months of design work to complete before construction starts. Site preparation activities are expected to get underway in May 2006, and the facility is expected to be fully operational by late spring of 2007.

Trim-Rite Food Corporation was founded as an independent custom pork boning business in 1980 with a plant in Schaumburg, Illinois and moved to its current state-of-the-art plant location in Carpentersville in 2002.
