control system replacement, low-pressure superheater replacement, refractory repairs, and general maintenance to supporting equipment

Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources Incorporated; Houston, Texas). AmerenUE, a subsidiary of Ameren Corporation (NYSE: AEE) (St. Louis, Missouri) is planning to replace a turbine at the Rush Island Power Station located near Festus, in Jefferson County, Missouri.
An outage of 56-day duration is scheduled for this fall to complete the estimated $6-million project.
The Rush Island Power Station consists of two 621 megawatt Westinghouse turbine generators, powered by two Combustion Engineering tangential-fired dry bottom boilers. The outage is tentatively scheduled in November on Unit 2, which came on line in 1977. The existing Westinghouse turbine will be replaced with an Alstom turbine.
Power plants are under pressure to modernize their operations for greater efficiency and performance. The benefits include lower maintenance costs, and shorter outage duration. Replacing the turbine is an important event in modernization. The scope of work on the project will also include control system replacement, low-pressure superheater replacement, refractory repairs, and general maintenance to supporting equipment.
AmerenUE is the largest electric utility in Missouri and also supplies electric and gas services in Illinois. A merger between Union Electric Company and Central Illinois Public Service (CIPS) formed Ameren Corporation in December 1997. Ameren's primary operating subsidiaries are AmerenCIPS, AmerenUE, and Ameren Generating Company. The subsidiaries are engaged in the generation, transmission, distribution and sale of electric energy.
