Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The 200,000-barrel-per-day (BBL/d) Lindsey Oil Refinery in Grimsby, England, will undergo a series of maintenance shutdowns in 2010. The plant is owned by Total SA (NYSE:TOT) (Paris, France) and operated by subsidiary Total UK Limited (Hertfordshire, England).
The refinery is divided into four areas. In June 2010, Area 2 of the refinery will shut down for maintenance. Although work will be performed only in some of the units, the entire area will be brought down because of a lack of feedstock. The 100,000-BBL/d Crude 2 unit, the 21,000-BBL/d Platformer 2 unit, the 40,000-BBL/d Diesel Hydrotreater unit, and the Kero Hydrotreater unit will be affected, among others.
Taking its name from one of the historic districts of North Lincolnshire, Lindsey Oil Refinery came online in 1968 with a processing capacity of 69,900 BBL/d. The plant is the U.K.'s third largest oil refinery.
Thanks to some of the highly advanced refining and conversion processes, the refinery has the flexibility to process about 40 different types of crude oil. The plant is strategically located and takes advantage of North Sea oil, which accounts for between 85% and 95% of the refinery feedstock.
Currently, 35 different finished product specifications are produced at the refinery, which processes 30% diesel, 25% petrol, 17% liquefied petroleum gas and speciality products, 15% fuel oil and bitumen, and 13% kerosene and jet fuel.
