January 20, 2026--Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Ube Corporation's (Tokyo, Japan) "Vision for 2030" roadmap aims to shift focus from production of basic chemicals to specialty chemicals due to weak market conditions and oversupply. This restructuring transformation affects its Thailand operations, Ube Chemicals (Asia) Public Company Limited (UCHA) and UBE Fine Chemicals (Asia) Company Limited (UFA), with shutdowns accelerating by March 2026, a year earlier than originally planned.
Ube Chemicals (Asia) Public Company Limited's (UCHA) core production lines closing soon include Caprolactam, cyclohexanone, ammonium sulfate and one of its nylon polymers (PA6) line. Additionally, Ube Fine Chemicals (Asia) Company Limited (UFA) will stop producing 1,6-hexanediol and 1,5-pentanediol.
Despite Ube Corporation's decision to replace the cyclohexane-based chain, the company will now focus in expanding specialty chemicals, including composites, polycarbonate diols, polyurethane dispersions and elastomers. Carbon neutrality action is expected to low the company's greenhouse gas emissions by 50% by 2028 as environmentally friendlier products remain with lower emissions intensity.
