UMass Seeking Construction Manager at Risk for $86 Million Nano-Manufacturing Center in Lowell

Reported by Annette Kreuger, Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--In December 2008, the University of Massachusetts Building Authority released a request for proposal seeking a construction manager at risk for the construction of the planned Emerging Technologies and Innovation Center (ETIC) in Lowell, Massachusetts. The final selection and award will be made February 16, 2009. As reported in Industrial Info Info's Pharmaceutical Tracker - Online Database, the project, which will feature nano-manufacturing capacity, will then be cleared to begin construction in July of this year.

Designed by CUH2A (Princeton, New Jersey), the project will add a 100,000-square-foot building that will carry a Silver LEED (Leadership in Energy and Envirnomental Design) certification. In addition to nano-production, the ETIC will be equipped to house manufacturing research, characterization and clean-room facilities, bio-manufacturing research labs, and health and environment research labs.

The ETIC is the first major capital project on the Lowell campus in 30 years. Joslin Lesser & Associates (Cambridge, Massachusetts) is serving as the project's manager for the university through the completion of construction, which is currently scheduled for April 2012.
