Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Salem Nuclear Power Station, located in Hancocks Bridge, New Jersey, tripped offline its 1,175-megawatt (MW) Unit 01 reactor Wednesday morning due to coupling repairs from the feed water pump. The power station is jointly owned by PSEG Nuclear LLC (53%), a subsidiary of Public Service Enterprise Group Incorporated (NYSE:PEG) (Newark, New Jersey) and by Exelon Generation LLC (43%), a subsidiary of Exelon Corporation (NYSE:EXC) (Chicago, Illinois (NYSE: EXC) (Chicago, Illinois).
The unit tripped due to issues with the feed water pump and an associated mechanical coupling. Officials expect to have the maintenance issue resolved before the end of the week, barring further delays.
PSEG Nuclear operates two units at Salem Nuclear Power Station. Unit 2, which also has total capacity of 1,175 MW, was unaffected by the trip. Each unit operates on an 18-month refueling cycle, with each reactor core containing 193 nuclear fuel assemblies.
