Hatch Nuclear Power Plant, which is located in Baxley, Georgia, shut down its 876-megawatt (MW) Unit 1 on Saturday, December 13, to repair seals on a recirculation water pump. The plant is owned by Georgia Power Company, a subsidiary of Southern Company (NYSE:SO) (Atlanta, Georgia).
Officials are continuing to investigate and said that repairs are under way. They said the unit could return online as early as Tuesday, December 16, if there are no delays.
The Hatch plant has two generating units, with a total capacity of 1,749 MW.
