Researched by Industrial Info Resources China (Beijing, China)--The first unit of Xinjiang Tianshan Aluminum Industry Company Limited's (Shihezi, Xinjiang) Aluminum Industry Park Cogeneration Power Plant was connected to the grid and put into operation on December 8, 2012, according to an announcement from China Energy Engineering Corporation (CEEC) (Beijing), the project contractor, on December 12, 2012.
Tianshan Aluminum's Aluminum Industry Park Cogeneration Power Plant is located in the Chemical and New Material Industry Park of Shihezi Development Zone in northwestern China's Xinjiang autonomous region. The project is invested by Xinjiang Production and Construction Corporation (Urumqi, Xinjiang) and mainly serves as the self-service power plant for the owner's aluminum industry park.
As reported, Tianshan Aluminum plans to build a coal, power and aluminum-integrated complex in the aluminum industry park, which mainly comprises a 1.6 million-metric-ton-per-year aluminum ingot project, a 1 million-metric-ton-per-year advanced aluminum material processing project, a 3,500-megawatt (MW) cogeneration power plant, and associated coal mines. According to plans, the cogeneration power plant will be furnished with four air-cooling, coal-fired units, each of 350 MW, in Phase I, and another six air-cooling, coal-fired units, each of 360 MW, in Phase II.
Construction of Phase I kicked off in August 2010. Jiangsu Electric Power Design Institute (Nanjing, Jiangsu), a subsidiary of the CEEC, is responsible for the design and engineering of the power plant. Jiangsu Electric Power Construction No.3 Company Limited (Zhenjiang, Jiangsu) and Hunan Electric Power Construction Company (Changsha, Hunan), two other subsidiaries of the CEEC, are responsible for the construction of Unit 1 and Unit 4, and Unit 2 and Unit 3, respectively.
Following the commissioning of Unit 1, the remaining three units in Phase I will be put into operation gradually in 2013. Meanwhile, preliminary engineering for the six units in Phase II is also going smoothly.
