Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources Incorporated; Houston, Texas). United Carbon Corporation (Woodland Hills, California), a privately held company, plans to construct a grassroot carbon black plant in California that will be the first carbon black plant located on the West Coast and will employ the latest in process and pollution control technologies.
Waste tires generated regionally will be shipped to this site to be recycled and used as a feedstock. This new plant will produce approximately 62,000 tons per year of carbon black with almost 22,000 tons per year of capacity produced from recycled tires. Several by-products include No. 2 Marine Oil and three to five megawatts of power that will be used to support the development of a local industrial park.
Edison O&M Services (San Dimas, California), an affiliate of Edison International, will provide services for plant operations and maintenance. SNC Lavalin (Montreal, Quebec) has been selected to provide design, engineering, and construction services for the estimated $122 million construction project.
Local permitting has been completed and once financing for this $190 million development is in place, construction could begin within twelve months or less depending on market conditions.
