Universal Coating Nears Startup of New Plant Site in Michigan

Universal Coatings Incorporated (UCI) (Mount Morris, Michigan) is nearing construction completion of a new plant on Energy Drive in Flint, Michigan. UCI began construction of this 85,000 square foot plant early last year, after many delays in trying to find a suitable location.

UCI has relocated much of its existing manufacturing operations from Mount Morris to this new plant site and will also move administrative staff when the construction is complete in the next few weeks. The selection of the Flint site came after a long and exhaustive search for a new plant home. When UCI initially began searching for a new plant site nearly three years ago to accommodate its planned growth, Genessee Township, Michigan, was selected. Local opposition sent UCI searching for an alternate location, which ultimately provided Flint the opportunity to become the selected site.

The plant in Flint will have a new automated coating line, and existing production equipment has been upgraded to utilize the latest in automated controls and conveyance. This new plant enables UCI to maintain its commitment to environmentally friendly processes and product excellence.
