University of Kentucky Races to Home Stretch on Construction of $73 Million Biomedical Research Building

The University of Kentucky (Louisville, Kentucky) began site work on their $73 million Biomedical/Biological Sciences Research Building (BBSRB) in October of 2002. First reported by Industrialinfo.com in April 2002, (PEC 23001424) the BRB is the first development of the West Campus and an integral part of the school's ambitious plan to strengthen their research capacity.
The five-story 185,000 square foot building will house interdisciplinary wet laboratories for research in genetics and genomics, and vaccine development, along with the establishment of the Neurosciences Institute. It will also include cold rooms; central autoclave and centrifuge facilities, tissue and cell culture areas and animal care sections. A new central utility plant and electrical substation are also part of the project.
Gilbane Construction Management (Columbus, Ohio) is construction manager for the project. Completion of the BBSRB is anticipated by the fall of 2005.
