University of Minnesota's $37 Million Translational Research Building to Speed Drug Discovery

Construction is set to begin on a $37 million Translational Research Facility (TRF) at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities (Minneapolis, Minnesota). Translational Research is becoming an increasingly important direction in research, with its focus centered on speeding up the process of translating basic science discoveries to direct patient care and treatment. The 96,000 square foot, 4-story building will be built on the university's East Bank campus, next to the 52,500 square foot Lions Research Building, which was built in 1991.

Construction of the project (PEC 30000703) is being managed by Kraus-Anderson (Minneapolis, Minnesota) and Perkins & Will (Minneapolis, Minnesota) served as the architect. Thirty-three researchers and their support staff will work in the new building when it is completed in 2006. Fields of research at the TRF will include therapeutics for the treatment of cancer, Alzheimer's and hemophilia.
