Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The adhesives and sealants sector covers a broad swathe of products ranging from everything to paste to caulk to pipe-sealing compounds. U.S. project activity in this sector weighs in significantly with more than $724 million in both current and future projects being tracked by Industrial Info.

Nearly $450 million worth of the adhesive and sealant projects being tracked is located in the Great Lakes market region, which includes Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio and Wisconsin, and about two-thirds of this amount comes from a single plant expansion. 3M Company (NYSE:MMM) (Saint Paul, Minnesota) since 2021 has been at work on expanding and updating its adhesives plant in Cordova, Illinois, in a project that is expected to last five years. According to 3M, the plant manufactures "a wide variety of technologies that enable products such as Post-It™ Notes, Scotch Magic™ Tape, Scotch Blue™ Painter's Tape and several medical tapes to 'stick.'" The lengthy project includes several components, including infrastructure updates and additions, environmental compliance work, and new buildings, including a warehouse. The project is expected to wrap up in 2026. Subscribers to Industrial Info's Global Market Intelligence (GMI) Project Database can learn more by viewing by the project report.

Other U.S. adhesives projects include building plants from the ground up, such as Henkel Corporation's new plant in Brandon, South Dakota, which will be next to an existing plant. While the existing Brandon plant manufactures a variety of materials under the Loctite and Bergquist brands such as super glue, construction adhesives, foam sealant and epoxies, the new plant will manufacture a range of thermal interface materials and adhesives used in electronics and electric vehicles (EV). In EVs, adhesives are used for bonding battery boxes, bonding magnets in electric motors and forming gaskets among other uses. Henkel first turned dirt on the new plant in 2022 and is expected to wrap up construction this summer. Subscribers can click here to learn more.

Other projects are just kicking off or planned for a future date. Unitech Company Limited (Ansan, South Korea), for example, is just getting started on a grassroot plant in Morrison, Tennessee. The project entails constructing an 8,000-square-foot building with equipment to produce thermal adhesives and compression pads for EV batteries as well as other automotive adhesives and sealers. The plant is Unitech's first location in North America and is strategically located in an area of strong automotive activity. Industrial Info is tracking more than $14.4 billion of active automotive projects in Tennessee, the largest of which involves EV battery production and electric pickup assembly lines in Stanton from Ford Motor Company (NYSE:F) (Dearborn, Michigan). Unitech is expected to complete the plant in early 2025, not long before Ford's new plants will begin commercial operation. Subscribers can learn more by viewing the reports on the Unitech and Ford projects.

Another adhesives project is planned to begin later this year in Greenville, South Carolina. The Reynolds Company (Greenville) manufactures a range of adhesives used in products such as corrugated board, tape and labels, bookbinding, bottle labels, oil filters, food packaging and much more. The company is expanding its plant through the addition of new production lines that will require a range of equipment such as piping, heat exchangers, tanks and blending equipment. The project is expected to take about a year to complete, putting it on track to finish toward the end of 2025. Subscribers can learn more by viewing the project report.

United Gilsonite Laboratories Incorporated also is adding adhesive production lines to its plant in Scranton, Pennsylvania. United Gilsonite's products include Drylock compounds, which are used to waterproof concrete and masonry. The project is expected to kick off this summer and be completed by the end of the year. Subscribers can click here to learn more about the project.

In addition to many capital projects, Industrial Info also is tracking 75 current and future maintenance programs at U.S. adhesives plants. Subscribers can learn more by viewing the related project reports.
