Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas). Looking to become a major player in the fuel ethanol production market, cooperative operated U.S. BioEnergy Corporation (Brookings, South Dakota) has an option on land near Springfield, Minnesota, for the companys fifth fuel ethanol production site. Currently, the company has two new plants under construction in Lake Odessa, Michigan and in Albert City, Michigan. The 45-million gallon per year Michigan plant is scheduled to be complete by August 2006, and the 100-million gallon per year Iowa plant is expected to be operational a month later.
Construction on the 100-million gallon per year Springfield plant is scheduled to start in late 2006, and will be operational by January of 2008, if permitting, zoning and financing are all approved as scheduled. The company is utilizing Fagen, Incorporated (Granite Falls, Minnesota) as the design-build contractor to build all of its plants, along with local and regional subcontractors.
Once all of the plants are online, U.S. BioEnergy will become one of the major players in the agri-energy, fuel ethanol market adding 445 million gallons of annual capacity to the current 4.5-billion gallon per year domestic market.
