U.S. Dairy Sector Construction Starts for 2016 Stand at $1.9 Billion and Rising

Projects by dairy producers are expected to increase.

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Companies that produce dairy-based products at sites in the U.S. have plans to start construction on over $1.94 billion in capital projects in 2016. Industrial Info has identified more than 125 capital projects to build new facilities, carry out plant expansions or upgrade existing facilities--with the expectation that those numbers will grow as the year progresses. The total investment value (TIV) of individual projects range from $500,000 to $280 million. The aggregate of construction starts for the sector in 2015 was $1.4 billion from 97 projects.

Grassroot construction activity will account for just over $1 billion in project expenditures tied to the construction of 16 new plants. New plant construction project values range from $10 million to as high as $280 million.

Project owners include Agropur Cooperative (Longueuil, Quebec), Bay Valley Foods (Platteville, Wisconsin), Blue Bell Creameries Incorporated (Brenham, Texas), Dairy Farmers of America Incorporated (Kansas City, Missouri) and Hilmar Cheese Company (Hilmar, California), among others.
