Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The firearm and ammunition industry has wide-ranging effects on the U.S. economy. With hunting and shooting sports gaining popularity, domestic demand for shotguns and rifles is expected to increase in the coming years. Industrial Info is tracking $61 million worth of related U.S.-based projects.
Growing demand for small-caliber ammunition for civil and defense purposes also is expected to drive growth. Increased public interest in shooting sports and technological advances in non-lethal ammo, such as rubber bullets, wax bullets, beanbag rounds and plastic bullets for security personnel, are expected to fuel the global ammunition market through 2025.
Ammunition is categorized into large, medium and small calibers, along with naval, mortar, aircraft and artillery ammunition. According to a new market report from Transparency Market Research, the global market for ammunition is forecast to reach $10.09 billion by 2019.
Companies like SilencerCo LLC (West Valley City, Utah), IWI US Incorporated (Middletown, Pennsylvania), Faxon Firearms LLC (Cincinnati, Ohio), Nemo Arms Incorporated (Nampa, Idaho) and SCCY Industries LLC (Daytona Beach, Florida) are building or expanding their plants to prepare for the demand.
SilencerCo LLC has the single largest project currently tracked by Industrial Info: the proposed, $30 million expansion of a rifle and pistol plant in West Valley City, Utah. The company plans to expand the existing, 72,000-square-foot facility with a 52,000-square-foot building. SCCY Industries LLC is considering a proposed, 100,000-square-foot, $22.5 million plant in Maryville, Tennessee, to manufacture pistols. For more information, see Industrial Info's project reports on the Utah and Tennessee plans.
