U.S. Industrial Manufacturing Industry to Create More than 6,700 Jobs as 38 Plants Become Operational in Second Quarter

The U.S. Industrial Manufacturing Industry is one of the largest job creators to see growth, and it is expected to create 6,700 jobs across the U.S. in the second quarter as plants

Released Monday, April 15, 2013

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Job creation remains a hot topic in the U.S., especially following the poor jobs report at the beginning of April. Although the unemployment rate has been declining slightly, it will rise swiftly in the near future if more jobs are not created on a more consistent basis. But each month, companies complete construction on new or grassroot plants and open the facilities for operations, making thousands of jobs available. The U.S. Industrial Manufacturing Industry is one of the largest job creators to see this growth, and this key industry is expected to create 6,700 jobs across the U.S. in the second quarter as plants begin manufacturing operations.

In the second quarter, the focus for job creation in the U.S. Industrial Manufacturing Industry will be in the Southeast region, which includes Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi and Tennessee, and has been an area of significant growth in recent years. The industry will see 15 new plants that were either constructed from the ground up or were older, closed plants that were renovated begin manufacturing operations. These plants will create more than 4,100 new jobs, which will be very welcome in states where skilled positions are increasingly difficult to find.

The Great Lakes region is also expected to see some solid jobs growth during the quarter through this method of jobs creation. The region is the blue collar backbone of the country, with its reliance on the automotive and heavy manufacturing sectors within the Industrial Manufacturing Industry, and it struggled through the recession to keep jobs within its borders. In the second quarter, nine new plants will begin operations, which will bring another 1,000 jobs to the Great Lakes region. While this is but a small portion of the jobs that were lost during the recession, jobs have been returning to the region as companies have ramped up production since the end of the recession to meet increased demand--especially in the automotive sector, where sales are booming.

Several other regions also are expected to see job growth during the second quarter. The Northeast is expected to have four plants begin operations that will bring more than 600 jobs to the region, while the Mid-Atlantic and New England regions are each looking at more than 350 new jobs during the quarter. The Midwest and West Coast region also are going to reap some benefits from these facilities coming online, as another 100 jobs will be created in each region.

While the opening of new or renovated facilities is a slower method of job creation than more traditional methods, it is a steady and almost never-ending source of new jobs on a monthly basis. As long as companies in the Industrial Manufacturing Industry continue to invest in grassroot plants or continue to purchase or lease previously closed plants with the intention of renovating them to begin production on new products, jobs will be created. With more than $2.7 billion in project activity currently scheduled to begin construction during the second quarter in the U.S. in the Industrial Manufacturing industry, the project pipeline will continue to be fed, which will certainly lead to more jobs in the future.
