Valero Starts Up Phase I of 50-Megawatt McKee Windfarm

Researched by Industrial Information Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Valero Energy Corporation (NYSE:VLO) (San Antonio, Texas) has begun operating the first phase of a 50-megawatt (MW) windfarm adjacent to the company's McKee Refinery just north of Amarillo, Texas. The McKee Windfarm will be constructed in two phases.

Phase I consists of six GE (NYSE:GE) 1.5-MW wind turbines. The turbines for Phase I have been erected and released to Valero by PCL Constructors for commissioning and startup. Energy production began in December 2008.

Phase II of the wind farm will consist of the installation of 27 GE 1.5-MW wind turbines. These turbines are expected to be installed and commissioned before the end of the second quarter of 2009. Valero is trying to establish a greener footprint to offset the company's current carbon emissions.
