Vector Pipeline LP Moves Forward with Natural Gas Pipeline Expansion Project

The Vector Compression Expansion Project will expand the existing natural gas transmission capacity of the pipeline from its current 1 billion cubic feet per day to 1.2 billion cubic feet per day.

Released Tuesday, January 10, 2006

Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). Vector Pipeline LP (Livonia, Michigan), a joint venture company that is 60 percent owned by Enbridge, Incorporated (NYSE:ENB) (Calgary, Alberta) and 40 percent by DTE Energy (NYSE:DTE) (Detroit, Michigan), is planning to expand its Vector natural gas pipeline system. The existing Vector pipeline system was constructed in 2000, and consists of 348 miles of pipeline originating at the Dawn Ontario natural gas complex and terminating near Chicago, Illinois at Joliet.

The Vector Compression Expansion Project will expand the existing natural gas transmission capacity of the pipeline from its current 1 billion cubic feet per day to 1.2 billion cubic feet per day. Without constructing any new pipeline segments, the Vector pipeline can be expanded through compression additions to a total capacity of 1.5 billion cubic feet per day of natural gas capacity.

The Vector Compression Expansion Project will entail the construction of two new compressor stations and the installation of approximately 45,000 horsepower of new compression. The expansion project will carry an estimated price tag of $70 million dollars. The two new compressor stations will be located near the towns of Joliet, Illinois and Romeo, Michigan. The Joliet station will consist of a single 15,000 horsepower turbine compressor package and the Romeo station will consist of two turbine-based units of the same size.

Vector Pipeline hopes to receive all of the required permits to begin construction on the project by November of 2006. All things considered, Vector Pipeline should begin construction on the project some time in early to mid-2007, with a completion and in-service date targeted for November of 2007.
