Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). Privately held VeraSun Fort Dodge LLC (Aurora, South Dakota), the renewable energy arm of VeraSun Energy Corporation, held its ethanol plant grand opening over the weekend and has begun full capacity production at a brand new plant in Fort Dodge, Iowa.
Currently, twenty-one plants in state of Iowa have the ability to produce over one billion gallons of ethanol annually, leading all other U.S states in ethanol production.
The plant will process over 40 million bushels of corn per year into ethanol and also produce 353,000 tons of dried distillers grains and create 40 new jobs for the rural community.
The company employed ICM, Incorporated (Colwich, Kansas) as the engineering firm for the project, and the leading ethanol plant builder, Fagen, Incorporated (Granite Falls, Minnesota) served as the general contractor for the $140 million project.
Ethanol production in the state of Iowa is not tapped by a long shot. Currently, ten additional plants are under construction that are expected to add an additional 547 million gallons to the states overall capacity and seven other plants are at this time in various stages of early development that could grow the industry by another 358 million gallons. Once all the plants come online by early 2008, Iowa could have the capacity of producing nearly two billion gallons of the renewable fuel annually.
