Vietnam's Thermal Coal Mines Plan $1.4 Billion in Expansions

Upcoming coal projects include the Khe Tam Coal Mine mobile plant expansion, the Lep My Coal Handling Preparation Plant expansion project, the Khe Cham III underground coal mine expansion, and the Hon Gai Area Coal Storage & Processing Center expansion.

Amid the government's plan to shift the country's power sector toward renewables and decrease its reliance on coal, state and local coal miners have benefited from exports to China and India and are investing significantly in automated mining operations and extending the lives of existing underground coal mines.

A total of 32 active projects, worth $1.4 billion, are expected to boost Vietnam's coal capacity over the next five years, with 20 expansion projects, worth more than $690 million, in the planning stages.
