Visteon Announces Opening of New Virginia Plant

Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources; Houston, Texas). Visteon Corporation (NYSE:VC) (Dearborn, Michigan) has recently announced the opening of its new fuel systems plant in Chesapeake, Virginia. The new plant, which will employ 42 workers, will supply integrated fuel systems for Ford F-150 pickups made at Ford's nearby Norfolk truck assembly plant. Visteon has leased the 73,000 square foot manufacturing plant, which is in the old Volvo truck plant in Crossways Commerce Center in Chesapeake.

Visteon spokesman and Vice President of North American and Asian Manufacturing Operations, Tom Burke has said the plant will be operational next month. The plant represents an initial investment of $17 million for Visteon.

According to a company press release, the environmentally friendly plastic fuel tanks and delivery systems, which will be built at this plant, are unique in that they allow system components (fuel systems, fuel filters, fuel and vapor lines, and onboard recovery systems) to be integrated into the tank itself. This will reduce the number of areas from which fuel vapors can escape and is expected to minimize vapor emissions considerably.

Visteon is a leading Tier I supplier of integrated automotive systems to several OEMs, and primarily to Ford, from which it was spun off in 2000. Visteon employs 79,000 workers at 180 sites in 25 countries.
