Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources Incorporated; Houston, Texas). Energy Northwest (Richland, Washington) is a joint operating agency that provides at cost power to 19 public utilities that own it in Washington. Energy Northwest's generation currently consists of nuclear, hydroelectric, solar, and wind. These energy sources are considered environmentally friendly and/or renewable energy. Energy Northwest is the operator for two of the members' landfill gas-to-energy projects, also considered renewable energy. The company produces 64-megawatts (MW) of renewable energy.
To meet future baseload requirements, a study for an integrated gasification combined-cycle (IGCC) power station is now being conducted. The 500-600 MW IGCC plant will convert coal to a clean gas, then utilize the fuel to power two combustion turbine/generators (CT's) whose waste heat will be used in heat recovery steam generators (HRSG's) that produce the steam to drive a steam turbine generator.
