Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Waukesha Electric Systems (Waukesha, Wisconsin), a subsidiary of SPX Corporation (NYSE:SPW) (Charlotte, North Carolina), has received approval for a $70 million expansion of the company's Waukesha, Wisconsin, electric power transformer manufacturing plant.
The company plans to expand the existing plant by constructing a 140,000-square-foot building addition, with the installation of production equipment. A contractor will be selected in the late summer, with construction anticipated to begin in the early fall of this year. Overall completion is slated for the spring of 2012. Approximately 250 jobs will be created.
Waukesha Electric is receiving a $12.45 million tax credit to expand the plant in Waukesha to produce large, high-voltage transformers.
SPX is a Fortune 500 company with more than 17,000 employees. It provides products and services such as food and beverage; transportation; automotive; power generation and distribution; gas and oil production; manufacturing; pharmaceutical and biotechnology; agriculture; and others. Waukesha is considered to be the largest U.S. manufacturer of medium-power transformers and a supplier of large power transformers.
