We Energies Completes Construction of 580-Megawatt Port Washington Combined-Cycle Project

Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). We Energies (Milwaukee, Wisconsin), a subsidiary of Wisconsin Energy Corporation (NYSE:WEC ), has completed construction and startup testing of the $600 million, 580-megawatt combined-cycle project at the Port Washington Power Station in Ozaukee County, Wisconsin.

Construction for the project began in March 2003 and was completed in December 2004. Full commercial operation is scheduled to begin this month. The project consists of two 170-megawatt natural gas-fired GE Power Systems MS7001 FA combustion turbine generators equipped with dry low-NOx burners that will be attached to two Alstom Power Incorporated heat recovery steam generators equipped with duct burners and a 240-megawatt GE Power Systems D11 condensing steam turbine generator.

The project also features state-of-the-art air emissions-reduction technology, including selective catalytic reduction for the reduction of NOx emissions and the use of catalytic oxidation for the control of CO2 emissions.

The Washington Group International, headquartered in Boise, Idaho, performed the turnkey services for the project.
