The wind power station is to be jointly developed by the Government of Huize County and Yunnan Power Investment New Energy Development Company

Released Friday, May 11, 2007

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas). The largest wind power station in southwest China’s Yunnan province is to be started soon in Huize County of the province very shortly.

The wind power station is to be jointly developed by the Government of Huize County and Yunnan Power Investment New Energy Development Company Limited. Estimated investment of the project is $259 million, with a total installation capacity of 200 MW. The project is to be developed in several stages and zones; the installation capacity and estimated investment for the first stage is 48 MW and $64.9 million. The first stage of the project is expected to start construction in March 2008 but only after the development condition is confirmed with one year of observation data on local wind power resources upon the completion of two newly furnished wind measuring towers in the region.

Yunnan possesses rich water resources and is a traditional giant in hydropower generation. There are many large hydropower stations such as the Tianshengqiao Hydropower Station on the Nanpanjiang River, Manwan Hydropower Station on the Lancangjiang River. The province also has several large hydropower stations of 10,000 MW such as the Xiangjiaba Hydropower Station, the fourth largest hydropower station in the world, currently under construction.

Dahai Liangzi is located in the main peak area of Wumeng Mountain, 254 kilometers from Kunming, the capital city of Yunan. The maximum elevation above sea level is about 4,000 meters. The region is rich in wind power resources and is unique for the development of wind power generation. The investment for the construction of wind power station will be a breakthrough for Yunnan from its traditional hydropower generation. “It has very important meaning for optimal allocation of resources in the province,” said an officer from the Government of Huize County.
