Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Zhejiang Thermal Power Construction Company (ZTPC) (Hangzhou, Zhejiang), a subsidiary of China Energy Engineering Corporation (CEEC) (Beijing), successfully completed the generator stator erection for the first 390-megawatt (MW) combined-cycle unit of the gas-fired cogeneration expansion project at the Hangzhou Banshan power plant on May 22.

The erected generator stator, weighing about 277 metric tons with a length of 10.51 meters, is located at the 11-meter long foundation in the operation floor of the steam turbine room. In order to ensure the smooth and safe implementing of the lifting and erection works, the ZTPC had called for a special meeting and a site organization team was established with detailed deployment regarding the erection of the generator stator.

Hangzhou Banshan power plant was built in 1959 at the river bank of the Grand Canal in northern Hangzhou City. The power plant currently has two 135-MW coal-fired units and three 390-MW gas-fired combined-cycle units in operation.

The gas-fired cogeneration expansion project is located to the east of the existing coal-fired units. The project will include three 9F-class, 390-MW gas-fired combined-cycle units to provide combined heat and power services for the local society. The project will require a total investment of about $630 million.

As a project listed in the "immediate construction program" launched by the government of Zhejiang province to solve the power shortage by immediate construction of a group of gas-fired cogeneration projects in the shortest time, construction of the project began in August 2011. According to the schedule, the first unit is expected to begin operation in June 2012, and all three units will begin operation by the end of 2012.
