Reported by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Leading foodservice distributor Sysco Corporation (NYSE:SYY) (Houston, Texas) broke ground a couple of weeks ago on a food distribution center in Schertz, Texas. The company is relocating existing operations in Round Rock and San Antonio to the new site, including the 600 jobs at both locations. The new facility, which is estimated to cost $60 million and is expected to be complete next summer, will be Sysco's largest center in the country.
The new facility will be a 635,000-square-foot building, with an approximately 200,000 square-foot refrigerated area, plus a dry-storage area and office space. Big-D Construction Incorporated (Salt Lake City, Utah) was awarded the design-build contract. Innovative Refrigeration Systems Incorporated (Lyndhurst, Virginia) was selected to install the refrigeration system.
Sysco also plans to develop a nearly 1 million-square-foot re-distribution center on 255 acres that the company purchased in the Ennis Industrial Park in Ennis, Texas, as recently reported by Industrial Info Resources (IIR).
