Researched by Industrial Info Resources China (Beijing, China)--A meeting to promote the construction of China Datang Corporation's (Beijing) Binzhou Cogeneration Power Project was held in northern China's Shandong province on April 28, 2014. Construction of the project has kicked off, according to an announcement from China Datang Corporation on April 29, 2014.

The cogeneration project has a total planned capacity of 1,400 MW, of which two 350-megawatt (MW), supercritical cogeneration units will be built in the initial stage to replace smaller units.

According to the schedule, both units of Phase I will begin operations by the end of 2015. Upon completion, the project will be able to generate 3.85 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity, based on designed annual utilization of 5,500 hours; supply heat to an area of 13 million square meters; and supply 106 tons per hour of steam to industrial users.

The project received approval from the National Development and Reform Commission at the end of 2013. It is the first coal-fired project developed by Datang Shandong Power Generation Company Limited (Jinan, Shandong).

By replacing 245 MW of small coal-fired units and 177 small coal-fired boilers, the project also could save about 190,000 metric tons of standard coal per year. With the use of urban intermediate water, the project could achieve "zero" emissions of wastewater. With high-efficiency environmental protection devices and a comprehensive utilization of slags and ashes, the project could improve the local air quality by reducing air pollutants.

Among the leaders and representatives who attended the meeting were Chen Jinxing, the chairman of China Datang Corporation; Zhang Guangfeng, the chairman of Binzhou People's Congress; and Cui Hong Gang, the mayor of Binzhou City.
