Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Industrial Info is tracking more than $3.4 billion in Industrial Manufacturing Industry projects that are set to kick off in Texas in fourth-quarter 2019. Among the leading sectors in project activity is the distribution and warehousing sector, which includes data centers, and the transportation sector, which includes port, rail and airport projects.
Data centers have become a big business in the U.S., and in Texas, data center project activity seems focused on the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area. Among the data center projects planned to kick off in the area in the upcoming quarter is Digital Realty Trust Incorporated's (San Francisco, California) planned grassroot data center in Garland, about 15 miles northeast of Dallas. The first phase of the project includes construction of a 280,000-square-foot data hall with 32 megawatts of power to provide regional colocation services. Phase I is planned for completion in the summer of 2020. This could be followed by subsequent expansion projects. Phase II, planned to kick off shortly after the start of construction on Phase I, would double the square footage and power capacity of the facility. It is planned to be completed by the end of 2020. For more information, see Industrial Info's project reports on Phase I and Phase II.
Other large projects in the distribution and warehousing sector planned to kick off in the quarter include Logistics Property Company LLC's (Chicago, Illinois) construction of a grassroot speculative warehouse campus in Mansfield, about 20 miles southeast of Fort Worth. The project will take place at a 240-acre industrial park site and includes constructing seven buildings ranging in size from 107,000 square feet to more than 1 million. Construction is planned to begin soon and be completed in the first half of 2021. Alliance Architects Incorporated (Richardson, Texas) is the architect on the project, which has an estimated total investment value (TIV) of $150 million. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
One of the state's largest planned transportation projects also is in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Dallas Area Rapid Transit (Dallas) plans to start construction on its Cotton Belt Corridor regional rail expansion by the end of this year. The project entails constructing a 26-mile rail line between the Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport eastward to the Plano-Richardson area. The facilities will include 10 stations. Jacobs Engineering Group Incorporated (NYSE:JEC) (Dallas) is the lead designer on the project, which has an estimated TIV of more than $1.13 billion. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
In the Houston area, the George Bush Intercontinental Airport plans to begin the modernization of Terminal A in the upcoming quarter. The $196.8 million project will replace the existing building management system with a modernized system to allow automated and scheduled management of energy-consuming systems. The project is expected to take about three years to complete. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
Industrial Info also is tracking several planned project starts at Texas ports along the Gulf of Mexico. Among these is the $100 million Cruise Terminal 3 expansion at the Port of Galveston. The project includes converting existing piers into a 200,000-square-foot cruise ship terminal to accommodate Royal Caribbean International's (Miami, Florida) largest ships. The project is set to kick off next month and be completed in late 2021. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
In the manufacturing sector, Stanley Black & Decker Incorporated (NYSE:SWK) (New Britain, Connecticut) is gearing up to begin construction on a handtools manufacturing facility in Fort Worth. The 425,000-square-foot building will include three production lines and auxiliary systems to produce Craftsman brand wrenches, ratchets, sockets and general tool sets. GDA Architects (Dallas) is the architect, and Hillwood Construction Services (Fort Worth) is the general contractor. Construction on the $90 million project is expected to take about a year to complete. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
