Following the rapid growth of the sector in the neighboring state of Mato Gross and in order to add significant value to an important raw material for the regional economy, the west central Brazilian state of Mato Grosso do Sul has announced its very first corn-based ethanol production facilities in the last month.
In Jaraguari, a R$49 Million ($8.68 Million) investment has been announced by Destilaria Pioneira. This grassroot project, which recently commenced site preparation, will produce up to 200,000 liters per day of fuel ethanol in addition to distillers dried grains for the animal feed sector and corn oil for the food and beverage industry. The company's aim is to use solar energy to power the plant.
Meanwhile in Dourados, INPASA (Industria Paraguaya de Alcoholes SA) has announced the construction of a new facility following the completion of a plant in Nova Mutum. The company has signed terms of agreement with the state government to construct the facility in two phases with a total investment of R$1.8 Billion ($319 Million) with the capacity likely to be similar to that of their Sinop plant (first phase capacity of 1.4 Million liters per day). The investment is currently entering a two-year study phase.
