                    At the end of 2020, China's National Energy Administration (NEA) approved a batch of six coal mine projects in Xinjiang, including Yitai Yili Mining Company's 4.5 million-metric-ton per year (MM T/yr) coal mine; Baiyanghe Tianye's 2.4 MM T/yr underground coal mine and Altay Xintai Mining Company Limited's 1.2 MM T/yr Xintai No.5 above-ground coal mine consolidation.
The six coal mine projects have a total capacity of 15.3 MM T/yr and a total investment about CNY8 billion ($1.24 billion). Xinjiang is the fourth-largest coal producer in China. Its output reached 238 million metric tons in 2019. In 2020, the NEA approved 20 coal mine projects, with total design capacity of 37.2 MM T/yr in Xinjiang.
