Talos Energy Incorporated, an offshore energy company focused on oil and gas terminals, pipelines and production in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico and offshore Mexico, is awaiting the resolution of an agreement to unify the offshore Zama field to release investments for more than $1 billion for Block 7 development.
The Zama field, located in shallow Mexican waters, shares reserves with the AE-0152-Uchulkil assignment, operated by state-owned Petroleos Mexicanos (Pemex). The Ministry of Energy (SENER) demanded that the companies involved sign an agreement of understanding and unification to approve the development block plan.
Talos Energy, with its partners, Premier Oil and Sierra Oil and Gas (a Wintershall DEA subsidiary), plans to develop the field through two fixed production platforms and the installation of a floating storage unit, which will allow the consortium to diversify its oil sales possibilities. Gas from the field will be sent to the Dos Bocas port, in Tabasco, Mexico, to be treated and sold onshore. The final investment decision is scheduled for the second half of 2021.
