Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Apex Clean Energy (Charlottesville, Virginia) has announced another power purchase agreement (PPA) with Facebook parent Meta Platforms Incorporated (NASDAQ:META) (Menlo Park, California), which boosts Apex's clean-energy portfolio with Meta to more than 1 gigawatt (GW). Industrial Info is tracking more than $18 billion worth of active projects attributed to Apex Clean Energy.

"The success of our company and our mission, to accelerate the shift to clean energy, relies on partnerships with first movers like Meta that have set ambitious standards driving the energy transition," said Mark Goodwin, president and chief executive officer of Apex Clean Energy, in a press release announcing the agreement. "This portfolio, now totaling more than a gigawatt, represents a diverse set of best-in-class wind and solar projects in markets across the United States."

The most recent agreement is for all of the output from the 195-megawatt (MW) Angelo Solar project in Texas, which is expected to utilize photovoltaic (PV) solar panels on a single-axis tracking system. The project is in the late planning stage, and its construction kickoff is expected in October. Apex announced another PPA on January 24, for the full output from the 225-MW Great Pathfinder Windfarm in Boone, Iowa, which is expected to be completed in April. IEA Constructors, a subsidiary of Infrastructure and Energy Alternatives Incorporated (Indianapolis, Indiana), is performing contracting services. Click here for the project report

According to the press release, the Great Pathfinder project will help support Meta's operations in the region, including its data center campus about 40 miles away in Altoona, Iowa--where a $125 million Phase VII expansion is underway to add about 467,000 square feet and 30 MW of critical load power. According to a recent report from the American Clean Power Association (ACP), Meta has 8.7 GW of contracted wind and solar generation and battery storage in the U.S. (4.8 MW operational), trailing only Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN) (Seattle, Washington) with 12.4 GW. Among the operational PPAs between Apex and Meta are:
  • 200 MW from Apex's $900 million Aviator Windfarm in Robert Lee, Texas, the largest single-phase, single-site wind project in the U.S., according to an Apex press release; see project report
  • 175 MW from the Lincoln Land Windfarm in Alexander, Illinois; see project report
  • 80 MW from the Altavista PV Solar Farm in Lynch Station, Virginia, which was the company's first renewable-energy facility on the East Coast; see project report
Apex has 2,015 MW under development, according to its company website, which includes the proposed $550 million Roaming Bison Windfarm in Crawfordsville, Indiana. The project is designed to generate 300 MW of power, and construction is expected to kick off in October. Click here for the project report.
