The project involves building a new 40-kilometer discharge pipeline from the mill to the coasts of Bahia de Maiquillague (Los Rios, Chile). The pipeline will run 2,025 meters to the sea and have a depth of 18 meters. Effluents will be released to the sea after the project is completed. Permitting is expected to be obtained at the beginning of 2013. Civil works and infrastructure construction are expected to start in the second quarter of the same year, and the project will be completed in the middle of 2014.
The pulp mill is located in the town of Valdivia, which is in Los Rios State. The facility began operating in 2004, and it produces 2,000 tons of bleached pulp per day. At present, the mill employs about 350 people.
