Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Design-build firm Walbridge (Detroit, Michigan) has been in business for more than 100 years and has gained some of the largest projects by some of the biggest companies in the U.S. Industrial Info is tracking more than $4 billion in active U.S. projects involving Walbridge, spanning a range of geographies and covering sectors such as data centers, automotive assembly and airports.

Among Walbridge's most important clients is automaker Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV (NYSE:FCAU) (FCA) (Amsterdam, Netherlands). Walbridge's projects for FCA include the planned expansion and retooling of an idled transmission manufacturing plant in Kokomo, Indiana. The project, which is planned to kick off soon, entails constructing a building expansion to the 600,000-square-foot facility and retool it to allow for the manufacture of FCA's GMET4 2.0-liter engines, a four-cylinder turbo engine currently offered in Jeep Wranglers and Cherokees. Project completion is expected late next year. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.

While Arizona is not thought of as a hub of vehicle manufacturing, Walbridge is at work on a few projects for electric vehicles in the state, including Nikola Motor Company LLC's (Salt Lake City, Utah) grassroot hydrogen-electric semi-truck assembly plant in Coolidge, about 55 miles southeast of Phoenix. Construction on the plant is set to kick off next quarter, and the project initially entails the construction of a 500,000-square-foot facility with production lines to manufacture up to 35,000 zero-emissions vehicles per year upon final buildout. The $400 million project is expected to be completed by the end of next year. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.

In other industrial sectors, Walbridge is underway with the expansion of a data center for Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) (Redmond, Washington) in Boydton, Virginia. The project includes constructing a 246,000-square-foot facility that includes five modular data halls of 45,209 square feet each to provide expanded colocation and cloud computing services. Construction began early last year, and the project is wrapping up. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.

In Sanford, Florida, near Orlando, Walbridge is at work on an airport terminal expansion, which requires additions and renovations of existing terminal buildings and the installation of new loading docks to accommodate the surge in passengers using the airport. The $60.6 million project kicked off in the summer of 2018 and is expected to be completed by the end of this year. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.

In its home state of Michigan, Walbridge is underway with the expansion of an aircraft manufacturing plant in Battle Creek for WACO Aircraft Corporation (Battle Creek), which hand-crafts planes. The project includes constructing an 80,000-square-foot building addition that will house two new hangars and manufacturing space to increase the production of aircraft and provide maintenance and restoration. Construction began last summer and is expected to wrap up soon. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
