Refueling, Maintenance Outage Under Way at Endesa's Asco Nuclear Plant in Spain

Asociación Nuclear Asco Vandellos II, the plant operator, began the outage May 3. Such an outage is conducted every 18 months. Endesa SA, the plant owner, is planning a similar outage for Unit 2 at the Asco facility in November.

Unit 1 of the Asco Plant began commercial operations in 1984, and Unit 2 began operations in 1986. Unit 1's turbo generator has a 1,032-MW capacity, and Unit 2 has a 1,027-MW capacity. Both generators were manufactured by Siemens AG (NYSE:SI) (Munich, Germany). The facility also has a pressurized water reactor (PWR) from Westinghouse LLC (Monroeville, Pennsylvania).
