The nuclear power plant is operated by ANAV, a corporate group formed by Endesa S.A. (MCE:ELE) (Madrid, Spain), which has an 85% share, and Iberdrola S.A. (OTC:IBDRY) (Bilbao, Spain), which holds 15% of the venture. Unit 1 began commercial operations in December 1984 and Unit 2 began operations in March 1986.
The unit went offline October 27 for its 22nd refueling outage, and the reconnection to the grid took place on December 12, plant officials told Industrial Info.
At the moment, Spain's eight nuclear reactors generate 20% of the country's power, and Asco was recently cleared by the Spanish Nuclear Safety Council (CSN) to operate until 2021.
