Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Acciona Energia (Pamplona, Spain), through its Chilean subsidiary Acciona Chile, has submitted an environmental impact assessment to build a 103.5-megawatt (MW) windfarm to be located in Coquimbo in Chile's Region IV.
The estimated $230 million windfarm would supply electricity to the country's Central Interconnected System. The facility has been designed to have 69 wind turbines with a capacity of 1.5 MW each. The project's aim is to help the country reduce its dependence on thermoelectric power stations and diversifying its energy mix.
Acciona also won a contract in July 2008 from Chile's Endesa Eco to expansion the Canela windfarm in Coquimbo. The windfarm is planned to reach a total of 69 MW by the first quarter of 2010.
