Austrian Energy Company Announces New Combined-Cycle Power Station in Graz
A new 410-megawatt (MW) combined-cycle power station is planned to be constructed in the city of Graz in the Austrian county of Styria.

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--A new 410-megawatt (MW) combined-cycle power station is planned to be constructed in the city of Graz in the Austrian county of Styria. The owner, local energy company Energie Steiermark AG (Graz), plans to start construction in the first quarter of 2014, with completion expected for 2016.
The project is in a very preliminary stage. At the moment, the permitting procedures are being developed, and the company expects to have approval for the project in one year. The bidding process for the engineering, procurement and construction will be launched in the second quarter of 2012.
The Puchstrasse Power Plant, named for the street on which it is located in Graz, will be equipped with two 160-MW combustion turbines, two heat-recovery steam generators and a 90-MW steam turbine.
Energie Steiermark AG primarily owns and operates hydro and biomass-fired power stations. At the moment, several hydropower stations are planned for the county of Styria. Energie Steiermark is Austria's fourth-largest energy company. Styria County holds 75% of the company. Societé d'Investissement en Autriche (Paris, France), an investment company of Electricité de France (EPA:EDF) (Paris), holds the remaining 25%. Energie Steiermark sells 8,000 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of electricity, 1.2 billion cubic meter of natural gas, and 2,300 GWh of district heating in domestic and foreign markets. The company's annual turnover is approximately 1.4 billion euros ($1.9 billion).
