Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Boardwalk Pipeline Partners (NYSE:BWP) (Houston, Texas) placed a major natural gas pipeline project into service this quarter and is expanding its U.S. Gulf Coast presence in Texas and Louisiana. Industrial Info is tracking $547 million of projects involving Boardwalk Pipeline.
Among the Boardwalk projects to be placed into service recently is the Northern Supply Access Project, by Texas Gas, a subsidiary of Boardwalk. The project involved the shipment of gas from Ohio to Louisiana. Speaking during the company's latest quarterly earnings presentation, Chief Executive Officer Stan Horton said: "We placed the Northern Supply Access project into service on March 2, and commercial service began on April 1. This is the second north-to-south project on Texas Gas that we have placed into service over the last year, and it raises our total north-to-south capacity to more than 900,000 MMBtu [million British thermal units] a day. Texas Gas is now truly a bidirectional system that allows us to maintain gas flows in the traditional south-to-north direction, while north-to-south capacity has been added."
Horton said that among the largest Boardwalk Pipeline projects currently under construction is the Coastal Bend Header pipeline in Texas, which will supply Freeport LNG's (Houston, Texas) liquefied natural gas (LNG) liquefaction and export plant in Quintana, Texas. "A tremendous amount of work is occurring on this project, which will serve the Freeport LNG facility. We have received all of our regulatory permits and all of the right-of-way has been secured and cleared," said Horton. "Construction of the 66-mile header pipeline and one of the new compressor stations has commenced. The fully contracted 1.4-billion-cubic-foor-per-day project is on schedule to be placed into service in 2018." For more information, see Industrial Info's project reports on the pipeline and grassroot compressor station involved in the project.
"We also have under way a number of projects that will serve in-use markets in Louisiana," said Horton. Among the pipeline projects in Louisiana is a grassroot natural gas compressor station and lateral addition in Montz, Louisiana. The project involves constructing a 4,700-horsepower compressor gas package and 900 feet of transmission pipeline to provide up to 133 million standard cubic feet per day of natural gas to an existing pipeline system in southeast Louisiana. "We anticipate that service for the compressor station and minimal amount of new pipe will begin in early 2018," said Horton of the project. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
In addition to pipeline projects in Louisiana, Boardwalk is also converting a natural gas storage cavern in Plaquemine, Louisiana, to hold natural gas liquids (NGL). The project will convert the existing 6.67 billion-cubic-foot natural gas storage cavern to NGL storage. The $50 million project is planned to kick off this summer and be completed by the end of the year. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
Boardwalk reported first-quarter 2017 net income of $119.3 million, compared with $101 in the same period last year. The company is planning $850 in total capital spending this year, with $710 million planned for growth projects.
