Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The UHE Baguari Consortium (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) aims to complete the 140-megawatt (MW) Baguari hydropower project on the Doce River in Minas Gerais state two months ahead of schedule. Construction, being carried out by the engineering company Construtora Norberto Odebrecht S.A. (Rio de Janeiro), began in May 2007 and is expected for completion in July 2009.

The $210 million will be equipped with four 35-MW bulb-type hydro turbine generators supplied by Voith Siemens Hydro (Heidenheim, Germany). The power facility will be connected to the national grid through a 230-kilovolt transmission line.

The UHE Baguari Consortium was created as a joint venture to build and operate the plant. Neoenergia (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil), the largest private group in the power sector in northeastern Brazil, holds 51% of the consortium, Cemig Geracao e Transmissao S.A. (Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais) holds 34%, and federal power company Furnas Centrais Eletricas S.A. (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) holds 15%.
