Project Starts
Data centers are big business across the U.S., and California is no different. Among the biggest data center projects planned to kick off in the state this quarter is RagingWire Data Centers Incorporated's (Reno, Nevada) planned facility in Santa Clara. The center will be built on a 3.3-acre site and will include a four-story, 160,000-square-foot building with 16 megawatts of power. The facility will provide colocation services to Silicon Valley. Construction is expected to wrap up in early 2020. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.

Among the warehouse projects planned to kick off in the quarter is Orchard Partners' (Lafayette, California) Phase II development of its warehouse complex in American Canyon in Solano County. The project includes constructing four buildings with a total of 2.27 million square feet. Ware Malcomb (Pleasanton, California) is the architect, and Ottmans Construction Company (Whittier, California) is the general contractor. Construction is expected to begin soon and take about a year to complete. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.

In San Bernardino, the San Bernardino International Airport Authority will begin construction on a grassroot air cargo logistics center. The facility will be built on a 101-acre site and will feature a 685,500-square-foot distribution building and a 25,000-square-foot maintenance building. Hillwood Construction Services (Dallas, Texas) is the general contractor on the project, which has an estimated total investment value (TIV) of $200 million. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.

Another airport project is among the largest planned to kick off in the state in the quarter. The San Francisco International Airport (San Francisco, California) will soon begin a modernization of Terminal 3 West. The western half of the 1 million-square-foot terminal will be renovated by expanding a boarding area and other facilities, as well as replacing five passenger boarding bridges. The project entails the construction of a three-story building of approximately 170,000 square feet. Turner Construction Company (Oakland, California) and Gensler (San Francisco) are performing design-build services. The project is expected to wrap up by the end of 2022. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.

Project Completions
As the San Francisco airport begins one project, it will soon complete another. The Phase II expansion of a Terminal 1 boarding area began in late 2017 and was part of a $2.4 billion plan to redevelop the terminal. The project included the construction of eight additional gates, bringing the total to 17. This part of the project had an estimated TIV of $130 million. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.

Also in San Francisco, the Port of San Francisco Incorporated will wrap up a ferry terminal expansion. Among other improvements, the project entailed constructing two new ferry gates and vessel-berthing facilities to provide for new ferry services, alleviate overcrowding and increase emergency response capabilities. The project began in the first half of 2017, with Power Engineering Construction Company (Almeda, California) as the general contractor and Roma Design Group (San Francisco) as the architect. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.

Several warehouse and distribution center projects will be completed this quarter. Among these is Prologis Incorporated's (San Francisco) construction of a grassroot distribution building in Tracy, about 60 miles east of San Francisco. The project, which began in 2017, includes a 795,732-square-foot building with 68 dock doors and 131 trailer spots. United Construction Company (Reno) is the general contractor on the project, which has an estimated TIV of $55 million. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
