Among the largest projects planned to kick off in the quarter are a couple of rail project in Seattle, Washington. Sound Transit (Seattle) will construct a 7.8-mile link extension from Seatac to Federal Way with three stations along the route. HDR Engineering is providing design engineering. Sound Transit also is planning an 8.5-mile link extension with four stations running along the 1-5 corridor from Northgate to the Lynwood Transit Center. Stacy-Witbeck-Kiewit-Hoffman (Seattle) is construction manager. Both projects are planned to kick off by the end of this year and be completed in 2024. For more information, see Industrial info's project reports on the Seatac-Federal Way extension and Northgate-Lynwood Transit Center extension.
Like other areas, data centers are prominent, and in Los Angeles, California, CoreSite Realty Corporation (Denver, Colorado) plans to begin construction on a data center at a brownfield site of a former parking lot. The 51,000-square-foot building will have four stories with 24 megawatts (MW) of power. Construction is planned to begin soon for completion by the end of 2020. The project has an estimated total investment value of $134 million. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
Warehousing and distribution projects also feature in the area. In Moreno Valley, California, Skechers USA Incorporated (NYSE:SKX) (Manhattan Beach, California) will be expanding its distribution center by constructing a 768,000-square-foot building expansion featuring 74 truck loading docks and an outside conveyor bridge. Construction on the $40 million project is expected to take about a year to complete. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
In American Canyon, California, near Napa, Orchard Partners (Lafayette, California) will begin Phase II construction on a warehouse complex by constructing four buildings totaling 2.27 million square feet to support regional warehousing and distribution operations. Ware Malcomb (Pleasanton, California) is the architect. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
Microgrids are becoming hot items as companies and government entities seek to have their own power supplies independent from the main grid. At the Port Hueneme naval facilities in California, the Naval Sea Systems Command is developing a 1-MW demonstration project at its server farm building that will feature a solar power array and battery energy storage system. The project will help to evaluate the benefits and operations of a microgrid system over a three-year period. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
