Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The consortium of North China Power Engineering Company Limited (NCPE) (Beijing) and China Power Construction Engineering Consulting Corporation (CPCEC) (Beijing), two subsidiaries of China Energy Engineering Corporation (CEEC) (Beijing), won the general contract for the Anqing Power Plant Phase II 2,000-megawatt (MW) expansion project on August 20, 2012, CEEC announced on August 23, 2012.

According to the contract, the consortium will be responsible for the engineering, procurement and construction of two 1,000-MW, ultra-supercritical water cooling coal-fired units, together with the limestone plaster, wet method, flue gas desulfurization device and selective catalyst reduction denitration device.

"Successful winning of the contract marks that the thermal power general contracting business of the NCPE and the CPCEC has stepped into a new stage," the CEEC said in the announcement.

The Anqing Power Plant, located at the north bank of the Changjiang River in Laofeng Town, Yingjiang District of Anqing City, in central China's Anhui province, is owned by Anqing Wanjiang Power Generation Company Limited (Wenergy) (Anqing, Anhui), a subsidiary of Anhui Energy Group Company Limited (Hefei, Anhui). The power plant currently has two 300-MW coal-fired units in operation, which were commissioned in 2005.

In 2011, China Shenhua Energy Company Limited (Beijing), the largest coal producer in China, signed a strategic cooperation agreement with the government of the Anhui province, and jointly established Shenwan Energy Company Limited (Hefei, Anhui) to acquire major thermal power plants owned by Wenergy. As part of the transaction, the Anqing Power Plant is now owned by Shenhua Shenwan Wanjiang Power Generation Company Limited (Anqing, Anhui), a subsidiary of Shenwan Energy jointly invested by China Shenhua (51%) and Wenergy (49%).

On the same day, the project received preliminary approval from the National Energy Administration to kick off pre-stage preparation officially. According to the schedule, construction of the project will start by the end of this year.
