Researched by Industrial Info Resources China (Beijing, China)--The kick-off ceremony for the piling works for Shenhua Shenwan Wanjiang Power Generation Company Limited's (Anqing, Anhui) 2,000-megawatt (MW), Phase II expansion project at the Anqing Power Plant was held on November 20, 2012. Construction on the project has kicked off, according to an announcement from China Energy Engineering Corporation (CEEC) (Beijing) on November 27.

The Anqing Power Plant, located at the north bank of the Changjiang River in Laofeng Town, Yingjiang District of Anqing City in central China's Anhui province, currently has two 300-MW, coal-fired units in operation. In August 2012, the power plant received approval from the National Energy Administration to kick off pre-stage preparation for two 1,000-MW, coal-fired units in Phase II. According to the strategic cooperation agreement signed in 2011 between the government of Anhui province and China Shenhua Energy Company Limited (Beijing), the project will be invested by Shenwan Energy Company Limited (Hefei, Anhui), a joint venture of China Shenhua Energy (51%) and Anhui Energy Group (49%) (Hefei, Anhui).

On August 20, 2012, the general contract for the Phase II expansion project was awarded to the consortium of North China Power Engineering Company Limited (Beijing) and China Power Construction Engineering Consulting Corporation (Beijing), two subsidiaries of the CEEC. The main subcontracts for the supply of boilers, turbines and generators were then awarded to Dongfang Electric Corporation (Chengdu, Sichuan) and Shanghai Electric Corporation (Shanghai), respectively, in September 2012.

As reported, the Phase II expansion project will be furnished with two 1,000-MW, ultra-supercritical, water-cooling, coal-fired units, together with a limestone-plaster, wet-method, flue-gas desulfurization device and a selective catalyst reduction denitration device. Total investment in the project will be about $1.2 billion. According to the schedule, the first unit of the project will be put into operation by the end of 2014.
