Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Unit 2 of China Datang Corporation's (Beijing) Wuan Coal Gangue Power Plant was successfully connected to the grid the first time on December 17, 2012. This means that the Phase I of Wuan Coal Gangue Power Plant is ready to go into full operation soon, according to an announcement made on December 20, 2012 by Liaoning Electric Power Design Institute (Shenyang, Liaoning), the project designer and a subsidiary of China Energy Engineering Corporation.

Datang Wuan Coal Gangue Power Plant, located in Kuangshan Town of Wuan City in North China's Hebei Province, is a key project for comprehensive utilization of coal gangue resources. Phase I of the project is furnished with two 300 megawatt (MW) subcritical units together with associated flue gas desulfurization and low NOx devices. The project is jointly invested by Datang Hebei Power Generation Company Limited (Shijiazhuang, Hebei) (76%) and Jizhong Energy Handan Mining Group Company Limited (Handan, Hebei) (24%), with a total investment of over $450 million.

In December 2009, the project received approval from the National Development and Reform Commission. Construction of the project was kicked off officially on September 26, 2010. After two years of construction, the first unit of the project successfully passed the 168-hour full-load continuous trial operation and was put into commercial operation on October 21, 2012.

As reported, commissioning of Unit 2 was officially kicked off on November 14, 2012. The steam turbine was started up and ran at rated speed on November 15. A series of electrical testing for the generator of Unit 2 was completed on November 16. On December 17, the unit received request from the Dispatching Center of Hebei Province for first grid connection. Following the closing of the circuit breaker at the 220 kilovolt side of the #2 main transformer, the unit was successfully loaded to 38.23 MW. During the synchronization, various parameters of unit are of sound level.
