Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--China Guangdong Nuclear Power Corporation (Shenzhen) is accelerating its development of nuclear power projects nationwide. Anhui Wuhu Nuclear Power Company Limited (Wuhu) has been formed by China Guangdong Nuclear (51%), Shenergy Company Limited (SHA:600642) (Shanghai) (20%), Anhui Province Energy Group Company Limited (Hefei) (15%) and Shanghai Electric Power Company Limited (SHA:6000021) (Shanghai) (14%). The establishment of the joint-venture firm cost $29 million. The company will be responsible for the preparation, construction and operation of Phase I of the Anhui Wuhu nuclear power project.
The 4,000-megawatt (MW) project, located in Wuhu, Anhui province, will be built in two phases. Phase I will have two 1,000-MW nuclear power units.
In May 2007, China Guangdong Nuclear signed an agreement and letter of intent to supply equipment for a nuclear power island with departments in Anhui and Shanghai. According to the agreement, 50% of the electricity generated from the project will be transmitted to Shanghai and the other half will be sent to Anhui. The main equipment will be supplied by Shanghai Electric Group (Shanghai).
The proposal for the project was submitted to the National Development and Reform Commission in September 2006. The project is now undergoing a feasibility study. According to the schedule, the project could begin construction during the Eleventh Five-Year Plan (2006-10) and go into operation in the Twelfth Five-Year Plan (2011-15).
China Guangdong Nuclear currently has nuclear projects in six provinces across China.
